Robbie Savage has hit out at a "ridiculous" incident involving Leeds United manager Daniel Farke at Elland Road this week.

Leeds face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday (24 February), fresh on the back of overcoming Sunderland in dramatic circumstances.

Pascal Struijk was the unlikely two-goal hero from the substitutes' bench to earn Leeds a 2-1 win over Sunderland that keeps them two points clear at the summit.

Elland Road went wild when Struijk helped in a 95th-minute winner, with Farke among those caught up in the scenes.

Farke banned for Leeds clash v Sheffield United

However, referee Stuart Attwell - a late replacement for Craig Pawson at Elland Road - saw fit to issue a yellow card to Farke for encroaching on the pitch.

Farke has amassed his fair share of yellow cards this season and will serve a suspension at Bramall Lane for the huge clash with Sheffield United.

And Savage, writing in his column for The Mirror [22 February], slammed that decision.

"I loved the passion of Farke's celebration after Pascal Struijk’s 95th-minute winner against promotion rivals Sunderland," he wrote.

"And it is absolutely ridiculous that he will serve a touchline ban at Monday night’s top-of-the-table clash with Sheffield United because referee Stuart Attwell saw fit to show him a yellow card for encroaching on the pitch to celebrate. What a nonsense."

Leeds can move step closer to promotion at Bramall Lane

Leeds are considered the favourites to come out on top against Sheffield United, which will be no mean feat.

However, ask any of the travelling fans if they would take a point against their Yorkshire rivals on Monday and the majority would surely say yes.

Keeping this two-point gap on Sheffield United, and moving five points clear of Burnley, would leave Farke's men in an extremely strong position.

Defeat would change all that, with Sheffield United going top and Leeds all of a sudden just four points ahead of third-place Burnley.

It will be a tense night at Bramall Lane and one that will hopefully end with the Whites one step closer to a Premier League return.
