Richard Keys believes Leeds United have had to make too many sales and no longer sees them securing promotion to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke's side have gotten their 2024/25 campaign off to a rocky start, drawing 3-3 with newly promoted Portsmouth before being knocked out of the EFL Cup by Middlesbrough in a 3-0 loss.

The Whites followed that up with a disappointing 0-0 stalemate with West Brom on Saturday 17 August, with Leeds now lacking some firepower in the final third.

Speaking live via beIN SPORTS on Saturday (17 August, 5:14pm), Keys said: "Leeds aren't the same this year. Too many sales they've had to make."

In response, Andy Gray asked: "You think? Don't fancy them?", and Keys simply replied: "Nope."

Leeds United to miss out on promotion to the Premier League?

With Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara all leaving Elland Road this summer, Farke's squad had already taken several hits, but there was still optimism that Leeds could secure promotion.

However, with Georginio Rutter now closing in on a move to Brighton & Hove Albion [Florian Plettenberg], the Whites are now extremely light in several positions.

There are only 13 days of the summer transfer window remaining, and with no concrete signs that another signing is on its way to Elland Road, fans are beginning to worry about their season.

Farke has made it clear that he wants to make additions to the squad over the coming days, which will definitely be needed after the first few matches.

Daniel Farke is in his second season as Leeds United manager.

The opening handful of results have certainly been no help in convincing the fan base that Farke can take Leeds back to the Premier League, but the German has worked wonders in the division before.

If the hierarchy cannot bring in any new signings before the 30 August deadline, Leeds may have to come to terms with a third consecutive campaign in the Championship.
