Arnaud Kalimuendo looks set to leave Rennes in the summer transfer window after the latest update from France.

Leeds United need Premier League-quality players this summer, and the signing of a striker will be high on their list of priorities.

Callum Wilson has been identified as a potential target, with his exit from Newcastle likely to happen, though the Whites have been mooted as a potential landing spot for several other European forwards.

After an update from France, it seems as though Leeds now have an open door to seal what would be a huge summer signing, years in the making.

Leeds can take advantage of Rennes' situation

French football houses some of the best talents in Europe, but the difference in finances often makes it difficult to retain them, and that may be the case for Rennes, though it could benefit those back at Elland Road.

A report from Foot Mercato (28 May) states that the Ligue 1 outfit are planning a "massive downsizing" in the coming weeks, which would see several players seek greener pastures.

One of those who is claimed "should be part of this large-scale operation' is Leeds-linked Kalimuendo, who has scored 17 goals for Rennes in the league.

Premier League survival will be a test for the Whites

Very few teams get promoted from the Championship and survive in the Premier League, though that is the challenge that awaits Leeds United.

As difficult as it will be, it is possible, though their recruitment this summer will have to be flawless if they are to stand a fighting chance.

Kalimuendo would be an excellent addition and was linked years ago, though Daniel Farke will need to see his squad bolstered in several other areas as they prepare for life back in the top flight.
