It’s been a tough 2020 but the single scariest moment was the first quarter of the game against Man City. Rodrigo will be the saviour this season.

Prominent Spanish journalist and BBC 5 Live reporter Guillem Balague has posted a huge transfer update for Leeds United fans, early on Saturday morning.

In a tweet on his personal Twitter account, Balague said, "After some typical last-minute hiccups but now resolved, last night all was agreed, done and dusted.

"Today it will be announced that #Rodrigo is a new @LUFC player. €29m + around €10m variables. You are right getting excited about what he can do for the side, Leeds fans!"

Is today the day?

Late last night Athletic journalist Phil Hay said that he was "just waiting for the nod" over Rodrigo.

And he promised one of his infamous goal celebrations when the news was finally delivered.

In an update on Thursday, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth had said that Rodrigo was yet to discuss personal terms.

However, while Balgaue didn't say what the 'last-minute' hiccups were, it seems that they've now been sorted and that Rodrigo will be the player to smash Leeds' transfer record – something that had been promised by Andrea Radrizzani earlier in the summer.

The upfront fee is going to be £25.8m, according to Balague, with another £8.9m in add-ons.

That smashes the £18m that Leeds paid for Rio Ferdinand way back in 2000.

The fact that record has lasted for so long is testament to Leeds' time in exile but this signing heralds the return to the big time.

If any more proof was needed, a trip to Anfield in the first game of the season, two weeks from now and live on Sky Sports, will provide it in spades.
