Reliable journalist claims update on EFL nothing more than 'scare story' based on hot air

It was suggested on Thursday that the EFL may need to complete over 60,000 coronavirus tests on players and staff in order to complete the football league season, meaning Leeds United may miss out on completing their season.

The Telegraph reported that there are fears that the situation is unworkable and therefore the season may not be concluded with only nine games left to play.

As each day passes, the plan appears to change with the problem now being that only the Premier League and the Championship could be finished in England.

Now, in another change, the Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that the numbers given in that Telegraph story could have been used as a scare tactic and aren't actually accurate.

"Heard the leaked tape yesterday," he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

"In my paper this morning. Checked the test numbers thing and was told it’s a scare story and based on hot air."

This is yet another twist in the return of football with many turns surely expected before Championship football returns this season.

The EFL still plans to allow the return of training on the 16th of May, with Athletic journalist Phil Hay reporting that Leeds' players are still on holiday and are expected to return on the 12th - four days before the football league's deadline.

These reported tests surely were surely disappointing but this latest update from Nixon surely fills us back with hope over the return of football, but let's concentrate on the health of the public right now.
