Celta Vigo and few other clubs made enquiries to secure the services of Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported on Wednesday (11 October) that Daniel Farke always wanted to keep hold of the Frenchman.

Last season, he lost his place to Joel Robles and with Karl Darlow joining from Newcastle, his spot in the first team appeared to be in jeopardy.

Assurances made

Had Farke not reassured Meslier that he was going to be the first choice, there was a good chance that he would've left the club.

Celta, the three-time Segunda League winners, are now an established La Liga side and typically secure mid-table finishes each season.

They find themselves in the relegation zone right now and things could've been a lot different had Meslier joined them.

The Frenchman surely will be aiming to play for the national side and he cannot do that by being the second choice keeper.

Game time is paramount for him and thus far, he's repaid all the faith that the German has shown in him and it's working wonders.

The Whites aren't conceding goals for fun as they have over the last 12-18 months and Meslier's gaining his confidence back.
