Patrick Bamford one of the reasons Leeds won't trigger transfer clause

Paul Robinson

A man who really needs no introduction to Leeds fans. Former Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson is a massive Leeds fan and still has his finger on the pulses of Elland Road and Thorp Arch. Paul will bring you the latest insight and news each week, along with world-class punditry on the current Leeds team.

Paul Robinson believes Darko Gyabi has a bright future at Leeds United as he continues to impress away from Elland Road this season.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a key member of Wayne Rooney's squad since arriving at Plymouth Argyle in the summer, but the Whites are unlikely to recall him during the January transfer window [Beren Cross].

He even scored his first goal for the Pilgrims during a thrilling 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday 21 December, and Robinson can see the midfielder having a future with the Whites.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: "Yes, potentially. He's doing really well in a team which is struggling, but at the moment with the squad at Leeds, Farke doesn't need him. He's been sent out to get experience because he wouldn't play at Leeds.

"With players like Ampadu coming back from injury, and the likes of Patrick Bamford, Max Wober, and Mateo Joseph on the bench, that's the reason he won't be brought back in January.

"An entire season at Plymouth will do him a lot better than a bit-part role at Leeds this season, and he's doing himself absolutely no harm by the way that he's playing right now."

Darko Gyabi to continue development away from Leeds United

The 20-year-old midfielder is still a very raw talent, having gotten little first-team experience during his time in the Manchester City academy.

Staying with the Pilgrims seems like the best decision for all parties, and it will only increase his chances of becoming a mainstay at Elland Road if his current performances continue.

He has only made six appearances for the Whites since making his move from the Etihad in 2022, and throwing him into a team attempting to win promotion to the Premier League could set his development back.
