Patrick Bamford and Junior Firpo are both likely to be included in the Leeds United squad to face Cardiff City, according to Leeds Live.

The online publication reported on Saturday (21 September) that the pair are expected to be part of the Whites' 24-man travelling party.

Bamford has been nursing an injury that has seen him miss Leeds' past three games, while Firpo has been struggling with a niggling issue.

Daniel James is the most notable absentee from United's squad, as expected, but Joe Rodon and Manor Solomon should also feature.

Patrick Bamford set to return for Cardiff City v Leeds United clash

Bamford has not played for Leeds since the 0-0 draw with West Brom on 17 August, meaning he has spent more than a month on the sidelines.

The Englishman has had a full week's training at Thorp Arch, though, and could make an appearance at Cardiff City Stadium.

If that is to be the case, it will almost certainly be as a substitute rather than a starter given he will not be anywhere near full fitness.

Bamford has many critics, but the squad is stronger with him in it than sitting at home or in the stands.

In many ways, this latest absence can act as a reset of sorts for Bamford. Leeds' attack is not as stacked as it was a few months ago, and that presents an opportunity to stake a claim for regular starts.

If he is to achieve that, he needs to ensure he finds the back of the net when he is finally called upon once again.
