Noel Whelan is a fan of Odsonne Edouard and urges Leeds to make move for striker

BBC pundit Noel Whelan says Leeds United are in urgent need of a striker and implored the club to move for Celtic's Odsonne Edouard.

The upcoming summer promises to be a busy one as the Whites could bring in a left-back and central midfielder as well as another forward.

Patrick Bamford has made that position his own with 14 Premier League goals this season, but Whelan thinks Edouard ticks a lot of boxes.

Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds, "I do think we need another striker, no doubt about that. I have been thinking for over two seasons now.

"Edouard at Celtic. I have been a big fan of him for a long time. He is my choice. He has got the stature, he has got the work rate, he can take set pieces."

Finding a Bamford back-up

Leeds certainly need more attacking options but Victor Orta may find it difficult to lure a top-class striker to Elland Road.

The summer transfer budget will determine what kind of striker we attract to Elland Road but Edouard is a player who should want to join.

However, he will have to play second fiddle to Bamford and Marcelo Bielsa is a huge fan of the 27-year-old.

Bamford has started every game this season and holds a vital role in the team, so acting as a back-up may not appeal to Edouard.

While Edouard is a forward who knows where the net is - he has 81 goals in 162 Celtic games - we are not sure he is in the same mould as Bamford.

And since Celtic reportedly want £20milllion for the Frenchman [Eurosport], he could be a bit of a risk.

On the other hand, signing a striker with different strengths to Bamford may be more useful, as it will allow us to mix up the attack in matches Bamford is struggling to influence.
