Newcastle have reportedly made an out-of-window trial move for Leeds United teenager Alfie Hughes.

According to the Chronicle, the 19-year-old even featured in their Under-23s game against Birmingham on Monday, which meant that the move from Elland Road was confirmed.

The left winger is now being considered for a permanent spot in the club's academy.

Surprising

There had been no reports about Hughes closing in on a move away from Leeds to join the ultra-rich Newcastle side.

He had only signed a new deal at Leeds last year and appeared committed to staying at the club for a while.

The 19-year-old's deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign but it seems like he's not set to see it out.

However, it appears that the Magpies made him a good offer which proved to be too hard to turn down.

Given their Saudi ownership, it's not too difficult for them to now shell out top dollar for the players they want to sign.

He's got Manchester United and Middlesbrough on his books and it remains to be seen if he can make a name for himself in the game.

Leeds have a lot of quality young players on their books so they will not be fussed by losing a player of Hughes' calibre.

They must keep signing new players for their developmental sides as Jesse Marsch could look to promote some next season.
