MOT View: Leeds chief shares potentially huge Ben White boost, 'We have already had discussions'

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear is confident that the club can secure the services of loan players like Ben White if the season runs past June 30.

White, 22, joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Brighton last summer but that deal is set to expire on June 30.

However there is a major issue with loan deals due to the coronavirus pandemic leaving the football season on an indefinite pause.

If the season restarts and matches end up being scheduled after June 30, what happens to players who are on loan?

Of course, White isn't the only player who is on loan at Elland Road.

Jack Harrison, Jean-Kevin Augustin and Illan Meslier are also on temporary deals with the Yorkshire giants and while Helder Costa is too, his permanent move to the club will go through in the summer no matter what.

Although Harrison has also been superb this season for Leeds, White has been the stand-out loanee and many fans are concerned about whether or not he will be able to see out the season if it runs past June 30.

Kinnear has revealed he has been in talks with White, Brighton the EFL and UEFA about loan deals and is optimistic about reaching a positive outcome.

“I think the longer it goes on, the more challenging it gets from a contractual perspective," Kinnear told Sky Sports' The Football Show, as quoted by LeedsLive.

“What I have been really encouraged by is the collegiate way that all of football is trying to work to work together to solve these issues.

“We have already had discussions with players we have on loan and their clubs, and we have had discussions with the EFL and with UEFA because we have some international loans, and some situations we have to resolve.

“We think there is a collective intent to find solutions, and I don’t think it is beyond the wit of man that if we work together, we can find those solutions to complete the season, even if it goes beyond June 30th.”

We hope Kinnear can pull this off but surely it is for the good of all clubs and loanees that their loan spells are seen out.

Some players might not be too keen if they have been struggling for game-time at their loan club but squad registration windows might not open back up for them to return to parent clubs and play for them.

There are a lot of issues to overcome if the season resumes but we hope common sense can be used here.
