MOT View: Pontus Jansson sets stall out for unlikely return to Leeds

A career in print magazines that included editing PC Zone, launching PokerPlayer and redesigning The Big Issue has finally led Dave to writing about the love of his life, Leeds United. It’s been a tough 2020 but the single scariest moment was the first quarter of the game against Man City. Rodrigo will be the saviour this season.

Pontus Jansson has made it pretty clear that he would welcome a shock return to Leeds United.

The former fan favourite opened up on his love for Leeds and revealed that he is very close to owner Andrea Radrizzani and still in contact with him.

The combative centre-back said that he's happy at Brentford but if we were a Bees fan we wouldn't be very pleased with what he's been saying about his former club.

Talking in a Swedish podcast called Lundh, Jansson said, "To be completely honest, I miss Leeds and love Leeds, but I'm in a place in life where I'm incredibly happy with where I am now in my new club and how appreciated I am here.

"But it is clear that I miss Leeds, my teammates and the club. You know that it was something special.

"I will love Leeds for the rest of my life and follow them. I have a pretty close relationship with many of the players, I still often talk to Andrea [Radrizzani]."

Talking of the decision to get rid of him Jansson said, "It was quite sensitive because Andrea and I were so close. But that was Bielsa's decision. They had to sell either me or…"

Jansson leaves us hanging here but it's obvious he was saying it was either him or Bielsa.

And that's just one of the big problems facing Jansson and a very unlikely return.

The chances of him coming back while Bielsa is still here are less than zero.

And, as much as Leeds fans used to love Jansson, that ship has sailed.

Leeds have moved on, both in terms of the league they're playing in and the quality of players they're looking for.

It's very possible that if Jansson had kept his head down and played as a team player, that he'd still be here now.

But we've now got international centre-backs from Spain and Germany, and, in Pascal Struijk, Leeds have a new cult hero.

Jansson might be hoping that a shock return to Leeds is on the cards but we think there's no chance of it actually happening.

Jansson might want to put the blame for his exit on others, but the fact is that he blew his one big shot at the Premier League.

As he said in the podcast, "I refused to leave England, there was no club in the Premier League that wanted me, so I had to go to a competitor instead."

Jansson made his bed and he has to lie in it.
