Chris Iwelumo was wowed by Mateo Joseph as his flicked finish helped Leeds United to secure a late point against Preston.

The Whites grabbed an equaliser on 93 minutes as the Spain under-21 international helped force Jack Whatmough into scoring an own goal in Saturday's (14 December) 1-1 draw at Deepdale.

The 21-year-old took the acclaim for the late strike and his flick on Dan James' cross went down well with Iwelumo live on talkSPORT (14 December).

The former Scotland international said: "Dan James takes a touch on the edge of the box, gets that yard then fires it across. Mateo Joseph is in complete control, he's there first and it's a little flick with his back foot through his legs.

"Woodman doesn't have a chance. There's so much pace on the ball from Dan James, it's an excellent finish."

Mateo Joseph impressive in Leeds United moment v Preston

It has to be said that it was harsh to the young forward to be dropped at Deepdale after coming into the starting XI against Middlesbrough.

Joel Piroe came in from the start after he grabbed an assist at Elland Road but wasn't able to make a positive impression against Preston.

This afforded the Spaniard a chance to impress from the bench and arguably did that as he helped to force home an equaliser.

Without his run into the centre, there would have been no reason for Whatmough to convert into his own net past the helpless Woodman.

Joseph made a difference where Patrick Bamford couldn't after his shocking miss earlier in the second half which almost saw Leeds go home with nothing.

Without the influence of the young forward, Daniel Farke would have cut an even more frustrated figure as his side would have gone away from Preston empty-handed.
