Leeds United were offered the chance to sign Spurs and Manchester United midfield duo Harry Winks and Donny van de Beek in January.

That's according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report that the Whites could have signed those players on loan for the season.

It is reported that after discussions with Marcelo Bielsa, though, both of those opportunities were turned down.

It is suggested that signing players that Bielsa didn't want would have been a pointless exercise at Elland Road.

So, with those options not pursued, Leeds ended the window with no senior additions to their squad, much to our disappointment.

The only signing was young forward Mateo Joseph Fernandez from Espanyol, who will play with the under-23s for the rest of the season.

Down the drain.

Although on paper both of these names sound like good additions, the opinion of one man is all that matters.

If Bielsa didn't wat Winks or Van de Beek, it would have been pointless to make a big push to bring them to West Yorkshire.

El Loco must be confident that Adam Forshaw and Kalvin Phillips are returning soon because we cannot continue with that same midfield as against Newcastle.

It actually hurt to watch Robin Koch, Mateusz Klich and Rodrigo at times, so with big games at Aston Villa and Everton to come, we need some good news.

Winks sounds like the perfect signing on loan, with his energy and non-stop running brilliant for our system, but there must have been something stopping the deal.

Bielsa will have his reasons, let's just all hope they don't backfire.
