Luke Ayling has sent a message to Leeds United supporters on social media ahead of the Championship play-off final tie with Southampton.

The fan favourite spent the second half of the season on loan with Middlesbrough and is set to depart Elland Road in the summer.

However, Ayling confirmed his attendance for the Southampton showdown at Wembley via his personal Instagram page [26 May].

"Wembley bound!!" he posted, alongside blue, white and yellow love heart emojis.

Luke Ayling remains a Leeds United fan favourite

Ayling's time at Elland Road may be coming to an end, but he is still very much loved by supporters.

Given he played 14 times for the Whites in the regular Championship season, he can say he played his part should promotion be achieved.

The 32-year-old will be supporting Leeds just like every other fan in attendance and will no doubt wear his heart on his sleeve.

You would imagine the club have invited him along to sit in the posh seats, so to speak, but if not he will be welcome in with the regular fans.

On a separate note, Ayling showed at Middlesbrough with his eight assist in 19 games that he can still do a job at this level.

That poses the obvious question of whether it would be wise to keep him on next season, but it seems the club's decision has been made.

If this is to be a final sign-off, let's hope Ayling is left celebrating with the fans that adored him for so long come full-time.
