Aidy White believes the way Pascal Struijk reacted to put Leeds United ahead against Ipswich Town was "not normal" for a centre-back.

Struijk tapped the ball over the line from close range after Joel Piroe's header from a corner was parried into his path by Vaclav Hladky.

Former Leeds full-back White praised Struijk for being in the right place at the right time early on in Saturday's (23 December) Championship contest.

"It's a great delivery there from Crysencio Summerville," White said on BBC Radio 5 Live [23 December, 12:41pm].

"Pascal Struijk is on the front foot, which is not normal for a centre-half. Lovely jubbly.

"The fans are now behind Leeds, whereas Ipswich are looking a little shaky. It's been a nice start."

Early breakthrough

Struijk is predominantly in the team to keep the opposition out, but he has now contributed to four goals in all competitions this season.

The former Netherlands age-grade international showed good reactions to get on the end of the loose ball after Piroe had gone close to converting Crysencio Summerville's in-swinging corner.

That goal gave Leeds lift-off and they did not look back as they raced into a three-goal lead by half-time in a game that was billed as must win.

Ipswich have been superb this season, but they were rattled by that early goal and were unable to grab a foothold in the match.

From Struijk's perspective, keeping a clean sheet after the opening 45 minutes would have pleased him just as much as the goal.

Leeds have arguably the finest attack anywhere in the division, yet that is not to say others - Struijk among them - cannot continue to contribute.
