Leeds United watched on from home as Brenden Aaronson featured for America against Germany on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder is preparing for his second World Cup after a solid campaign at Elland Road.

He featured for his country at the Qatar edition of the tournament where the The Stars and Stripes were knocked out by the Netherlands.

They will be hoping for better as hosts under Mauricio Pochettino as they finished their preparations with a friendly at Soldier Field.

Aaronson featured off the bench against Germany, but didn't exactly light the touch paper in the states.

There will certainly be eyes on the 25-year-old from LS11 as they look towards one of just four players going to the showpiece summer event.

America's campaign gets underway on Friday at 8pm Central Time or Saturday at 2am BST.

Ahead of that kick-off against Paraguay, the host nation saw out their preparations with a friendly with Germany.

Julian Nagelsmann's side ran out 2-1 winners in the end as goals from Kai Havertz and Leroy Sane cancelled out Antonee Robinson's wonder strike.

Aaronson came on with just 18 minutes to go and didn't do too much as NBC Sports only used six words to add to their 6.5 rating.

They simply wrote: "Tested Baumann with a solid shot."

There was also a strange comment made by Sports Illustrated who said: "Making his first appearance of the summer after briefly leaving USMNT training for his wedding, Aaronson put a shot on target and was elusive on the ball in his brief showing."

USA Today were nicer, describing his performance as "bright" while suggesting he'll "get plenty of super-sub opportunities at the World Cup".

The mixed reviews emerging out of the states sums up his performance although the stats may paint a different picture somewhat.

What do stats say about Leeds United ace Aaronson for USA vs Germany?

The eye test is one thing, but at least the stats paint a more positive picture about the Leeds man.

Coming on against one of the better sides at the entire tournament was never going to be easy and he at least got a top shot away.

That helped him maintain a 100 per cent shot accuracy at Soldier Field, something that was echoed in his pass completion rate.

He also chipped in with one defensive action and one duel win to show a different side to his game.

Things were never going to be easy with just 16 touches and that showed in the national media reviews in the end.

Leeds will now be watching closely to see how Aaronson performs in the tournament proper as the World Cup looms.
