Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson is now “taking stock” of his options ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross.

The American international arrived at the club on a five-year deal from Red Bull Salzburg last summer.

But he could already exit the West Yorkshire outfit after their relegation to the Championship, with Aaronson having a clause in his contract to leave in such circumstances and a departure a "concrete possibility" [Fabrizio Romano, 29 May].

“As an American with previous experience playing under Jesse Marsch, it was hoped Aaronson would be the kind of talent to unlock what the head coach wanted to see in West Yorkshire,” Cross wrote for Leeds Live.

“The influence on games never really materialised for the attacker, who will now be taking stock of his options.”

Disappointing period

It really has been a disappointing period for Aaronson, who only arrived at Elland Road last summer.

Making the spell even more disappointing is how much expectation there was for the young attacker, with pretty much every Whites fan expecting him to immediately hit the ground running under compatriot Marsch.

His sacking didn’t do Aaronson any favours, with the attacker failing to find any inspiration under Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce, with both managers not relying too heavily on the American.

Aaronson didn’t impress at Elland Road, but it shouldn’t stop plenty of clubs from showing an interest in his services this summer, with a fresh start perhaps all Aaronson needs to really reach his full potential.

It is clear that he was fully aware that the Whites had the potential to be relegated before he joined the club, with that potential now a reality, meaning he is already looking elsewhere having only just witnessed his club drop to the Championship.
