Plymouth Argyle are looking to secure the loan signing of Leeds United youngster Darko Gyabi until the end of the season, according to Plymouth Live.

The website reported [10 January] that the Championship outfit is targeting the 19-year-old midfielder, with there being previous links between Gyabi and the Pilgrims' new manager Ian Foster.

The young central midfielder was part of Foster's England squad at the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Argentina, where he scored in a 3-2 group-stage victory over Uruguay.

Much-needed loan move

The youngster is in desperate need of a loan move away from Elland Road, who has only made six appearances for the senior team since transferring from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

Gyabi has been a mainstay in Leeds' academy team, making 34 appearances in total, scoring three goals. However, he has failed to stamp his mark under Daniel Farke's reign, making just one of his three total starts this season against Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Cup.

It has been a disappointing set of events since making the move to Leeds. There was incredible excitement over the £5million signing in 2022, with Kalvin Phillips going the other way to Etihad Stadium, but it is yet to work out.

Battling in Plymouth's midfield could be vital for the player's development, as the Pilgrims look to avoid relegation to League One. The side are sitting seven points above 22nd-placed Sheffield Wednesday, claiming just seven Championship victories all season.

It is apparent that Gyabi will not be in Farke's plans this season, making the matchday squad on just five occasions. Many will hope to see the youngster back at Elland Road next season, learning from the likes of Ethan Ampadu and Glen Kamara.
