Leeds United transfer news as Whites remain interested in Burnley's Charlie Taylor

Leeds United are still interested in signing Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor but will need the Clarets to sign a replacement to complete a deal, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper reported on their website (9 August) that Daniel Farke still wants to add to his backline this summer with Max Aarons and Joe Rodon likely additions, but Taylor also remains on the radar of the Elland Road club.

The 29-year-old, who is a product of the Leeds academy and featured 104 times in his first spell with the Whites, played 41 times in all competitions last year, predominantly as a centre-back as the Clarets won the Championship.

Explaining the position of a potential deal as Leeds aim to have a busy end to the transfer window, Ryan Taylor wrote: "Another player that remains of firm admiration is Burnley's Charlie Taylor but the Clarets will only consider sanctioning his departure if a new left-back arrives in the final weeks of the window.

Strength in depth

Leeds United are quickly looking more and more like a competitive title-challenging outfit with each passing name linked to Elland Road and while both Rodon and Aarons are young players with Championship experience, Taylor knows the division inside out.

With over 350 career games under his belt at 29, the former England youth international will add an element of experience and know-how to what is a rather young Leeds side, especially in the absence of Liam Cooper who is set to miss two months of action with a foot injury.

Left-back has been a problem area for the Whites, with Sam Byram signed as a free agent to fill the void left by the injured Junior Firpo and Taylor would likely represent a fairly cheap option to come in and offer solidity on the flank that few others at Elland Road can ensure.

But the Whites need Vincent Kompany's Burnley to get their transfer window up and running to be able to sign Taylor, if Ian Maatsen could return to Turf Moor it would go a long way to helping Farke get his man.

This feels like a move that could happen very late in the window if by then Leeds haven't lost patience and decided to opt for a new target instead.
