Leeds United will reportedly stay in touch with the camp of Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha as they eye a January transfer.

According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth [13 December], while the Whites will continue to monitor his situation, their focus is on other targets.

They want the striker they sign to come from the kind of pool that got them under-the-radar players like Raphinha, Tyler Adams and Illan Meslier.

Leeds United

Makes sense

Cunha is certainly a big-name striker that will excite fans as he's played for Atletico Madrid and has Champions League appearances under his belt.

Signing such players often gives a boost to the dressing room but Leeds know that it is all easier said than done and they have learnt it the hard way.

Their pursuits of Charles De Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo eventually led to nothing as they were never really keen on moving to Elland Road.

Cunha may also be of the same kind so Leeds must be wary and not put all their eggs in that basket and their current approach does appear to be sound.

Victor Orta is a keen admirer of the striker but he's got to prepare for alternatives and if Cunha's camp gives any indications that he wants the move, then seriously begin to pursue his services.

We're keeping a close eye on this saga and would love if the club somehow manage to get this deal over the line as soon as possible.
