Leeds United are set for a summer player exodus after confirming Luke Ayling's Elland Road exit in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition (12 January, page 78) that the Whites' "loan army" are likely to follow the 32-year-old out of Elland Road come the end of the season, regardless of whether Leeds win promotion back to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke now has 12 first-team players out on loan, including Ayling and very few of those stars are expected to return when their temporary spells elsewhere expire.

Most of the loanees have clauses in their contract that will allow them to leave on another loan deal if Leeds miss out on promotion to the Premier League and should Farke's team win promotion, they would look to replace most of the loanees.

Proper clear out

Leeds United had to have a big clear-out following their relegation to the Championship last summer and that saw a number of players depart Elland Road on a permanent or temporary basis quite quickly after the end of the season.

However, those loan deals only temporarily solved the problem and the Whites were always going to have to address their "loan army's" future come the end of the season. Luckily, it seems that those in charge at Leeds have already cut their cloth accordingly.

Farke has already managed to replace most of those outgoing players at Elland Road, with a number of quality additions during the summer transfer window. This means that Leeds really don't need their loan army to return next summer.

Hopefully, the Whites will be able to make a reasonable amount of money from this mass exodus at the end of the season so that they are able to once again reinvest either in an attempt to remain in the Premier League or once again push for promotion in the Championship.
