Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing former Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos, who's currently at Fenerbahce.

Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed the 32-year-old's less-than-ideal fitness record in recent seasons ahead of a potential transfer.

His deal at the Turkish side does not run out until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

Carlos' injury history may derail any transfer

The Elland Road outfit may look at the Brazilian's recent injury history, including those that impacted him in the second half of the 2024/25 season, according to Dr Brar.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said about Carlos: "Leeds may take a closer look at the injuries which impacted him for the second half of last season, particularly if his last injury in May was related to either the previously disclosed recent knee or foot injuries.

"At 32, he’s past his physical prime, so that may be another major factor to consider.

"Prior experience in the Premier League will, however, play into his favour."

Leeds United do not need to sign Carlos

Leeds United should avoid signing Carlos due to his age, fitness concerns and their recent defensive acquisitions.

At 32, the Brazilian’s best years are behind him, and his move to Aston Villa in 2022 was marred by a ruptured Achilles, limiting him to 40 Premier League games over two seasons.

His lack of mobility and injury history make him a risky investment for Daniel Farke’s high-intensity system.

Leeds have already bolstered their defence with Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw, both 26 and experienced in top leagues, alongside Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.

This quartet provides depth and physicality, rendering Carlos’ potential move from Fenerbahce unnecessary for Premier League survival.
