Leeds United promotion verdict delivered by Don Goodman after win v Sheffield Wednesday

MOT Leeds News Speaking to Don Goodman

MOT Leeds News is delighted to have noted Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman joining its team of Leeds experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the likes of Bradford, West Brom, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports, where he has become a bonafide EFL expert. Don will bring you expert insight on all the goings on at Leeds.

Don Goodman believes Leeds United can see out the season unbeaten in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites have been near perfect so far in the Championship since the turn of the year, winning 11 and drawing one of their 12 games.

After dropping rare points in a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town, Leeds have since responded with wins over Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Goodman sees no reason why Daniel Farke's men cannot continue this current run of form through until the end of the campaign.

"They rattled off nine wins in a row recently, predominantly against teams you'd expect them to beat, as well as a signature win against Leicester," he told MOT Leeds News.

"Then you look at where they could trip up from here, but I'm looking now and they have attractive fixtures against lesser teams ahead.

"They will be tested in games, there's no doubt about it, but would it surprise me if they went unbeaten from hereon in? Absolutely not."

Millwall and Watford still to come for Leeds United in March

From being seemingly out of the picture in terms of a top-two finish at the end of 2023 to now being favourites to join Leicester City back in the Premier League - it has been quite the turnaround for Leeds.

The draw with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield felt like the end of the world at the time, with that down to the extremely tight nature at the top of the division all of a sudden.

Despite going on this remarkable run, Farke will know full well that defeat to Millwall next weekend, for example, and a win for Ipswich Town at home to Sheffield Wednesday, and all of a sudden it is a different picture once again.

The fixture list does indeed look quite favourable on the face of it, but no opponent can be taken lightly. Just ask Ipswich, who somehow squandered a lead against a Cardiff City side marooned in mid-table.

A cliche it may be, but it is very much one game at a time between now and the final whistle on the last day of the campaign.
