We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports News journalist Dan Bardell for his exclusive reaction to Leeds United transfer news on Deadline Day…

Dan Bardell doesn't believe a move to Leeds United is likely for Everton defender Ben Godfrey before the 11pm transfer deadline on Thursday (1 February).

Football Transfers reported on Tuesday (30 January) that the Whites are set to return with a renewed bid to sign the 26-year-old after seeing an initial loan proposal turned down.

It added that Daniel Farke is the one pushing for this deal after previously working with the English centre-back at Norwich City, with the Blues keen to sell him before the window closes.

Bardell believes a move to the Championship club is unlikely for Godfrey as he doesn't see the advantage of the Merseysiders allowing him to leave.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “That’s one I can’t see happening. Everton are in a battle at the bottom of the league and Ben Godfrey is a useful player because he covers every position in the back four.

"I also think he’s probably better than the Championship and, if he was actually available on loan, potentially a Premier League team might want to pick him up.

"But Everton probably wouldn’t loan him to someone who’s going to be a relegation rival. That’s one I couldn’t see happening just because I’m not sure what the advantage to Everton would be in letting him go out on loan.

"Leeds aren’t going to be covering a massive portion of his wages.”
