Paul Heckingbottom has insisted that Leeds United are flying in his latest verdict on the Championship promotion race on Sky Sports.

David Prutton quizzed the former Whites' boss ahead of the Easter Monday schedule kicking off, starting with Leicester's 3-1 win over Norwich.

Speaking live on Sky Sports, as shared on X, he said: "The dynamics certainly do shift. This stage of the season brings its own pressures, and that impacts the teams in different ways.

"Leeds are flying, Ipswich have got the underdogs tag yet they're top of the league and outperforming everyone, but with Leicester, there's a big expectation and with that comes pressure. At the minute, their results are reflecting that pressure."

Leeds keen to avoid ghosts of Easter past ahead of Yorkshire derby

Leicester's win began a potentially decisive day of matches at the top of the Championship, with Ipswich facing fourth-placed Southampton before Leeds' match with Hull City.

Playing on Easter Monday is traditionally not a good omen for the Whites, losing their last seven such matches in a run stretching back to 2011.

Leeds' last match on Easter Monday saw their 2018-19 promotion push hit the buffers in Marcelo Bielsa's first season at Elland Road

The most recent bank holiday defeat was by far the most painful, losing 2-0 at Brentford off the back of a shock 2-1 defeat to Wigan on Good Friday as Marcelo Bielsa's side wilted in 2019, handing promotion to Norwich and Sheffield United.

With four teams gunning for record-breaking points tallies this season, now is as good a time as ever for Daniel Farke's side to finally break Leeds' Easter curse, and succeeding in that task with a win could take them top of the Championship table by the close of play tonight.

Hopefully, an early goal can settle any nerves.
