Graham Smyth says the lack of tracking back by Crysencio Summerville in the defeat to Southampton "was not a good look" for the Leeds United forward.

Leeds were on the end of a 3-1 loss at St Mary's on Saturday [30 September] as their six-match unbeaten run in the Championship was brought to a juddering halt.

Summerville was hooked on the 73-minute mark after failing to make an impact, but it was his defensive shortcomings that stood out in the view of Smyth.

Writing on the Yorkshire Evening Post's online edition [2 October], Smyth said: "He might have posed problems with his dribbling and drawn fouls in good areas but his lack of urgency when running back trailing Will Smallbone was not a good look."

Fell short

No Leeds player played more key passes (three) or won more fouls (four) than Summerville [WhoScored], but the Dutchman was unable to find the target on the South Coast.

From a defensive point of view, Summerville did not register a single tackle, interception or clearance against Southampton, while nobody on the field committed more fouls (two).

The Netherlands U21 international is not in the side to break up opposition play, of course, but Daniel Farke expects each of his attacking players to be able to do the dirty work.

Summerville fell short in that regard against Southampton and was taken off with a quarter of the game left to play.

The performances of pretty much all of his players at the weekend leaves Farke with some big decisions to make against QPR on Wednesday [4 September].

With Jaidon Anthony pushing hard for a first start, it may well be that Summerville drops down to the bench in midweek.
