Leeds United have now made contact to sign Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes this summer, according to Record on Tuesday.

The Portugese newspaper has reported in its print edition [26 July, pg. 09] that the Whites have watched the Brazilian maestro closely since midway through the 21/22 season.

Sporting CP are not willing to part ways cheaply though, with a monster £42.4million deal needed to seal the switch for Nunes, who is also courted by Real Madrid, Barcelona as well as Premier League clubs.

Writing in their latest snippet regarding the midfielder, Record did share that staying another year in Portugal currently looks like the most realistic outcome.

"Leeds followed," they wrote.

"At the same time as trying to stay in the Premier League, Leeds monitored the situation of Matheus Nunes, even asking recently - already with that Premier assured - how much SAD [Sporting] asked for him," they wrote.

"The figures were those that we already know, at least €50million [£42.4million]."

Ambitious.

We are all for breaking the club record, but it is all about bringing in a new striker and left-back right now.

The new number nine will likely smash that record spent on Rodrigo, with Club Brugge having an offer of more than £34million on the table from Elland Road for Charles De Ketelaere.

Nunes costing over £40million would tip most of us over the edge if that was to happen, although Andrea Radrizzani would likely need more investment from the 49ers for that to happen.

Paraag Marathe will be in regular contact with Radrizzani, but we expect them to stick to the final third and left-back between now and the end of the window in September.

Nunes is one of Europe's most watched players and it is clear to see why.

The Brazilian can do it all and would be a phenomenal addition to the heart of our midfield, but with Marc Roca and Tyler Adams already signed, it looks as though we had our eyes elsewhere in this window.

If he sticks around in Portugal for another year, Nunes may see his pricetag drop, then it would be one to seriously watch - never count us out.
