Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell turned down a move to Coventry City in the January window, according to a report from Football League World.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Millwall, but he was heavily in demand during the January window. The likes of Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Coventry came close to signing him.

In fact, Cresswell had agreed to join Coventry on a permanent deal towards the end of the January window, but he made a U-turn on his decision.

The youngster feels that he has a future at the Yorkshire club, and remained as a Whites loanee.

Smart decision

Cresswell is one of the highly talented young players to have come out of the club’s academy, and it would have been really sad to see him leave on a permanent deal.

After the sacking of Jesse Marsch, the youngster will feel that he now has a chance to impress the next manager and play for the senior side.

Marcelo Bielsa spotted his talent and give him his debut for the senior side.

At the moment, Leeds do have enough players for the central defence role, but losing out on a homegrown talent doesn’t make sense.

Liam Cooper is not getting youngster and the club need to think about his long-term replacement. Cresswell could become his natural successor if he is properly backed at the club.

Although the Whites have options in the form of Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch and Max Wober, Cresswell can still be a part of the senior side by filling in for Diego Llorente who could leave the club permanently in the summer.
