Former Leeds United defender Leigh Bromby has labelled Patrick Bamford "unbelievable" after the part he played in the opening goal against Millwall at Elland Road.

It was Wilfried Gnonto who fired Daniel Farke's side ahead with a stunning strike off of his left foot, but Bamford's move across the defender allowed the Italian space to get his shot off.

Despite not picking up a goal or an assist in the 2-0 victory, Bamford displayed what he offers to the team and why he has become a key player this season.

Speaking live on BBC Radio Leeds [17 March, 15:37], Bromby gushed: "The detail in what Patrick Bamford does is unbelievable. He cuts across the defender, gives Willy Gnonto a bit of space but what a strike! Just what Leeds needed."

Bamford's impact on that first goal proved crucial as it allowed Farke's side to gain more control of the game which they had dominated even before the goal with plenty of pressure and possession and the opener was just rewards for their efforts.

It was a win that put Leeds top of the league, leapfrogging Leicester thanks to their superior goal difference in a statement of just how far this side has come and the form they are in compared to their competition.

The hotly-contested promotion race which initially looked like a race for second-place has now turned into a title race after a drop in form from the previous league leaders, with Ipswich and Southampton also hot on their tail.

With Gnonto, Bamford, Cyrsencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all on form as they have been so far this season, Leeds will not be ruled out of any race for the title as they begin to put their foot down at this stage.
