Leeds United told Jonathan Rowe can be signed for bargain fee after Celtic development

MOT Leeds News Speaking to Don Goodman

MOT Leeds News is delighted to have noted Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman joining its team of Leeds experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the likes of Bradford, West Brom, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports, where he has become a bonafide EFL expert. Don will bring you expert insight on all the goings on at Leeds.

Don Goodman insists signing Jonathan Rowe from Norwich City is a "no-brainer" for Leeds United after a transfer development involving Celtic.

Leeds have been linked with Norwich ace Rowe for a number of weeks, although they face stiff competition from Marseille.

The Telegraph's John Percy reported on 20 August that Marseille's third bid, which could be worth £13.5million in total, looks set to be enough.

While that figure may seem large, Goodman pointed out that it is still a relative bargain considering Adam Idah's recent move to Celtic.

Goodman exclusively told MOT Leeds News: "I'm reading that Adam Idah went to Celtic for between £8-9million - to me, with respect, Jonathan Rowe is twice the player Adam Idah is.

"So if you can get him for somewhere in that [£13m] region, for me it's a no-brainer. I think he'd be magnificent in that Leeds team. If Leeds can get him - as a Leeds United fan - it'd put a smile on my face for sure."

Leeds United need to move for Jonathan Rowe ASAP

News of Marseille closing in on a deal for Rowe is a big concern for Leeds. He is clearly a player they like the look of, and yet they are letting him get away.

Some may laugh at the £13.5m asking price, but he has proven what he is capable of in the Championship and has room to improve.

Indeed, in the view of Goodman, he should be valued closer to the £18m mark if Idah's move to Celtic is anything to go by.

Besides, Leeds have brought in close to £100m through the sale of a few players alone over the past month or so.

The owners' reluctance to splash out on the four players Daniel Farke wants is going to come back to haunt the club.

There are still 10 days left of the window, and it makes perfect sense to hijack Marseille's bid for Rowe to kickstart a late flurry of activity.

On the basis of what we have seen of late, though, the club will instead sit back and see another target head elsewhere.
