Leeds United icon Nigel Martyn shares Jesse Marsch verdict with Emma Jones
Former Leeds United goalkeeper Nigel Martyn admits that he's a fan of Jesse Marsch and what he's done in his time at Elland Road.
Speaking to broadcaster and Leeds fan Emma Jones, Martyn said that he did feel Marsch went over the top to get a suspension, but that was the right thing to do.
The American appears to have won over the fanbase at a time when it was agitated after the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa.
William Hill shared a snippet of the interview on their Twitter handle where Martyn said, "I'm a fan of what he does. You can tell that he really cares about the team and he shows his emotion.
"Did he overstep to get the ban? Personally, it was definitely a foul. Outside the box, there was a shirt pull. It got to inside the box, there was an obvious push.
"I think we all felt the same frustration as he did. I think it's quite good to see a manager wear their heart on their sleeve a little bit. Not overly, but sometimes.
"I think he's brought that energy. He's brought the players in that have added that energy and I think the whole place is looking really good at the moment."
Personality
Marsch has a certain aura and personality about him and he's certainly not going to bend at anyone's will.
He has a fixed identity on how the game should be played and will not compromise about it - which has seen him earn the respect of the fans and the owners.
It's clear that the players have responded to his methods and he's got to keep up the good work and show progress year after year.
Keeping the side in the Premier League should be good enough for the next few years, but then certainly many will start expecting more.
Hopefully, the board continues to back him in the same manner as they have this summer as he's proven that he makes valid suggestions.
He does seem to be having a good working relationship with Victor Orta as well which is important in terms of squad building and harmony behind the scenes.
