Leeds United handed Newcastle rematch subplot after Premier League announcement

Leeds United fans will need no reminding of what happened in the most recent meeting with Newcastle United.

The two sides are set to face off at Elland Road on Monday night, with nothing to separate them in the Premier League.

After playing out an uneventful goalless draw at Elland Road last August, Leeds were on the end of a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat at St James' Park in January.

Daniel Farke's side led three times in that game through a couple of goals from Brenden Aaronson and one from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, Bruno Guimaraes equalised in the 91st minute and Harvey Barnes scored a dramatic winner in the 12th minute of added time.

And in a twist of fate, there is now a subplot to this latest encounter following an announcement from the Premier League.

If Monday's contest is even half as dramatic as January's clash then we are in for a treat.

The Premier League has confirmed that Michael Salisbury will oversee the clash in West Yorkshire.

Salisbury was the man who was in charge of that seven-goal classic eight months ago.

Adam Nunn and Nick Hopton are the two linesmen for Monday's match, meanwhile, and Tom Nield if fourth official.
