Leeds United have been handed a major blow in their quest to secure the services of MK Dons left-back Matthew Sorinola this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Sorinola, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has signed a three-year deal at Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Tony Bloom owned club secured promotion to the top flight this year and are keen to sign Sorinola as they look to solidify their position in the Jupiler Pro League next season.

This will have come as a major blow to Leeds United, who have been keen on signing the player since early March.

The Whites' interest solidified when he turned down an extension at MK Dons, but it's now revealed that it was so that he can secure a pathway to play in the Belgian first division.

Sorinola is rated highly by the Dons manager Russell Martin who has referred to him as a 'brilliant' player. [MK Citizen]

Not the end of the world

Sure Sorinola is a promising young player who would've been a good squad player at best, but he wasn't coming close to the first-team picture so soon.

We've been in the hunt for a number of left-backs, most of whom have enjoyed playing in top European leagues, and they're the calibre of player we should be targeting to replace Ezgjan Alioski this summer.

Nicolas Tagliafico and Romain Perraud are two names that have been floated around, and either would walk into our first team and play at the tempo Marcelo Bielsa wants his full-backs to play at.

It is important that we get a left-back signing over the line as Barry Douglas too looks to be on his way out, leaving the versatile Stuart Dallas as our only option to play there.

He has impressed there, but the club should look to sign a specialist in that position as it's been a problem area this season and has led to us dropping points on the way.

A big summer ahead but we trust Victor Orta and the club to strengthen and hopefully give us a squad to finish in the European spots next season.
