Darren Bent and Ben Foster have both predicted Leeds United to achieve automatic promotion from the Championship this season amid a tight battle at the top of the table.

While Foster expects Leicester to retain their top-two position, he has also expressed concerns about their drop in form, which could allow Leeds to pip them to the title.

Bent, meanwhile, remained loyal to his former club Ipswich, who he claimed would achieve automatic promotion alongside Daniel Farke's in-form side.

Speaking on his YouTube channel [26 March], Foster shared: "Leeds have come from absolutely nowhere," as Bent replied: "They'll win it."

Foster then questioned: "What's happened to Leicester, though? This is my worry. They were so far ahead that they got into a comfort mode, but when you take your foot off the gas it's hard to put your foot back down."

Bent's ultimate prediction for the automatic promotion was: "Ipswich Town, obviously. Ipswich and Leeds," and Foster predicted: "I'm Leeds and Leicester."

Leeds United in close Championship promotion battle

Despite having moved into first place, Leeds know they still have a fight on their hands if they want to win automatic promotion from the Championship, or perhaps even the title, given the standard set by Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich.

Ally McCoist was equally stunned by the state of play at the top of the Championship as he insisted the promotion places are still wide open for the competing clubs to take advantage after it looked like Leicester had already won it.

Leicester defender Wout Faes, meanwhile, spoke out about the "crazy" promotion race but insisted the Foxes are still as determined as ever to win the league and the promotion to the Premier League that comes along with it.

Going into the final stretch of the season after the international break, all four of the top teams will know they stand a chance of making the automatic promotion, and two will have to enter the playoffs.
