Leeds United could be set to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer, as Bournemouth transfer news shared by Fabrizio Romano rules them out of contention.

Bournemouth have completed an agreement to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andrei Radu, with a medical set to take place on Wednesday, in news that seemingly rules the South Coast club out of contention for Darlow this summer.

It had been reported that Bournemouth were targeting the Newcastle 'keeper as competition for first-choice option Neto, but now it seems Radu will play that role, giving Leeds a free run at the goalkeeper they have prioritised in this transfer window.

It was reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post on 24 July that Leeds were expecting to bring in a new goalkeeper this week, but that keeper was left unnamed. With Bournemouth now out of the way, it has become clear that the next name through the door at Elland Road should be Darlow.

The Yorkshire club were also linked with a move for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, who was once dubbed the successor to the legendary Manuel Neuer, but Stuttgart appears to be the preferred destination for the German.

Darlow has been linked with a move to Elland Road throughout the summer transfer window despite interest from the Premier League club, with reports suggesting he always preferred a move to Leeds as it suited him and his family geographically.

With Bournemouth now out of the way, it leaves Leeds with a straight run at Darlow, and the deal may well be completed in the coming days.

Leeds have been proactive in their pursuit of a new first-choice goalkeeper as it is still expected that Illan Meslier will leave the club this summer following their relegation, despite a lack of concrete interest as things stand.
