Leeds United defender Connor Roberts has admitted that the Whites showed that they aren't "mugs" in the race for automatic promotion this season with their win over Leicester City.

Daniel Farke's side claimed all three points with an impressive 3-1 win over the league leaders at Elland Road on Friday (23 February) thanks to second-half goals from Roberts, Patrick Bamford and an own-goal from Wout Faes.

While Roberts doesn't think Leeds played particularly well against the Foxes, he thinks the Whites' ability to claim all three points when they're not at their best shows they are more than equipped to win promotion this season.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (26 February) he said: "We're no mugs, we know that we didn't really play as well as we could, as well as we needed for the whole game, really. I think even when we were scoring, we weren't really playing well.

"It is hopefully the sign of a good team and a team that achieves what they want to achieve by grinding out results and picking up points when maybe you're not at your absolute best and tonight, we've managed to do that.

"So hopefully like I say, in the remaining games, we can continue to do that."

Can Leeds United return to the Premier League this season?

Leeds United were far from perfect against Leicester and even the most loyal of supporters would have to admit that the Foxes dominated the majority of the game and probably had the chance to claim all three points.

However, playing well doesn't win titles or promotion, but finding ways to win matches does and at the moment Leeds and Farke have found a way to consistently win that has made them a real force in the Championship.

Daniel Farke has set Leeds United on course to win promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Whether or not they can pull that off remains to be seen, but it has become almost a given in some circles that Leeds will be playing Premier League football next term. While there is still plenty of football to be played, the current signs are incredibly positive.
