Leeds United are reportedly ready to sign Lens midfielder Seko Fofana once the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season.

According to Media Foot [10 January], the Whites are the only side chasing the services of the 27-year-old Ivory Coast international.

Ligue 1 duo Nice and Monaco are also keeping tabs on the midfielder and are likely to retain their interest in the summer as well.

Planning well in advance

It's unlike Leeds to plan for the following transfer window especially when the current one is still open and players can be registered right away.

The Whites have been linked with a host of midfielders in January as well, but after signing Max Wober and perhaps Georginio Rutter, they may not have funds left for another major signing.

It's more likely that a new midfielder will walk through the door over the summer rather than January so it's good to start laying the groundwork a few months in advance.

Leeds certainly need to replace Mateusz Klich who's parted ways with the club in order to join Wayne Rooney and MLS outfit DC United.

Adam Forshaw also could be made redundant at the end of the season while there are no guarantees about Stuart Dallas returning to his old self.

Thus, Fofana represents a pretty good option for the Whites and one they've got to consider signing in the coming months.

He has won the award of Ligue 1's player of the Month in September last season and given the quality of players in the league that is some achievement.
