Leeds United and Brighton have reportedly been joined in the race by Championship club Sheffield United to sign striker Lewis Pirie.

According to the Daily Record, Leeds and even Fulham scouted the Aberdeen youngster in Scotland Under-16's clash against Denmark.

Sheffield United, the four-time FA Cup winners are also said to be keeping an eye on the 16-year-old rising star.

Battle heating up

As far as we know, there are as many as four clubs keen on securing the services of the 16-year-old and this is not the last we're hearing of him.

He's certainly doing something for the Scotland side which has led to him receiving so many plaudits and adulation from top-flight and second-tier clubs.

The fact that the Blades are not a Premier League team does not mean that they will not be able to sign him ahead of the other three sides.

They can offer him a quicker route to senior football and perhaps that's what he will be looking for at his age rather than a big-name club.

Leeds also recently signed Sonny Perkins and Willy Gnonto so they may not bring in another striker as a potential first-team player and rather someone to only strengthen the academy.

Pirie does seem to be an interesting and exciting prospect and we're hoping that Leeds can somehow manage to sign him.
