Adrian Clarke has branded Leeds United "lucky" after their "wild" 4-3 win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium that set up a dramatic end to the promotion race.

The former Arsenal midfielder insisted they were lucky to get away with Willy Gnonto's offside goal, but said Crysencio Summerville's effort for the fourth goal was the one to see.

Leeds' win saw the latest twist in the battle for promotion as they moved above Ipswich into second place, just one point behind leaders Leicester, albeit with one more game played.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [23 April, 06:41], Clarke explained: "It was a wild ride of a game, really, really exciting.

"I think Leeds kind of forgot how to defend at times and they got lucky with the Wilfried Gnonto goal which was clearly offside, but that moment with Summerville bending goal number four in for Leeds was the one.

"It's just set up which I think is going to be the best finale we've seen in the Championship for many, many seasons."

Leicester are set to face Southampton at the King Power on 23 April in an attempt to extend their lead at the top of the Championship to four points which would all but secure the title with two games left to play.

Leeds' fight, as it has seemed for a while, will likely be with Ipswich for the second automatic promotion place and the win against Middlesbrough was the first step towards achieving their goal as all they can do is continue to win their games.

With Ipswich having played one game fewer than Daniel Farke's team, the pressure will be on them to match the result, and pressure can often lead to mistakes at this stage of the season where every result could prove crucial.

As Clarke shared, Leeds may have had a slice of luck in their win at the Riverside, but it has set up one of the most tense and exciting promotion races we have seen in years. Whether that is a good or a bad thing will depend on your allegiances.
