Patrick Bamford reacts to late moment in Leeds United win over Leicester City, 'idiot'

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford admits he felt like an idiot when celebrating his late goal in the win over Leicester City on his own.

Bamford stuck out a knee to divert Daniel James' free-kick into the back of the net as he added a third for Leeds in the 3-1 victory.

James thought the goal was his, but Bamford also claimed it and was credited with the goal by Sky Sports, who shared footage at full-time.

Asked how he felt after initially celebrating alone, Bamford told Sky Sports [23 February]: "As I was running off I didn't realise and I turned around and everyone was on the other side of the pitch. I looked a bit of an idiot."

As any striker will tell you, any goal, no matter how it goes in or off which part of the body, counts as much as any.

Bamford scored a Puskas contender at the start of the year, but this goal was entirely different in terms of quality levels.

The 30-year-old stuck out a knee and the ball flew past Mads Hermansen. Due to the fact he actively stuck out a knee, and the ball changed direction, the goal was credited to him.

As Bamford himself admitted, there was an element of luck to it. Had the ball deflected wide of the target, James likely would have reacted furiously.

As it is, the Welshman will not care whether it is his goal or Bamford's - all that matters is Leeds dug deep to win a game they looked well out of with a little over 10 minutes to go.
