Dominic Calvert-Lewin was in good form once despite Leeds United 's 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

James Justin opened the scoring for Leeds 10 minutes into the second half but the Gunners showed their title-winning credentials when Riccardo Calafiori and substitute Bruno Guimaraes scored to secure them all three points.

Even though Leeds' unbeaten start to the Premier League season is now over, Daniel Farke and his men can be proud of their performance in North London.

None least than Calvert-Lewin.

After returning to West Yorkshire following a call-up to the England national team, in which he won two caps for the Three Lions, Calvert-Lewin will have been desperate to continue the form that earned him that spot in Thomas Tuchel's squad.

And even though he didn't score, if Tuchel was watching, he would have no doubt been impressed by the Leeds striker's display.

What Joe Cole said about Dominic Calvert-Lewin's performance vs Arsenal

Former West Ham and Chelsea star Joe Cole was watching the game at the Emirates and was full of praise for Calver-Lewin, who caused all sorts of issues for Arsenal's defenders.

"Dominic Calvert-Lewin is unnerving the back four of Arsenal," said Cole on TNT Sports' live coverage of the game.

"I don't think we ever really see a centre-forward do this to an Arsenal back line."

Former Times journalist Henry Winter was also impressed by Calvert-Lewin's display, saying on X that the ex-Everton star was "worrying Arsenal’s vaunted defence".

What were Calvert-Lewin's stats vs Arsenal?

It wasn't a typical centre-forward performance by Calvert-Lewin, who didn't even have a shot at goal versus Arsenal.

Some people will say that a striker's only job is to score goals, but it simply isn't - not when you have talented wide players and attacking midfielders who can feed off the chances you supply them.

Stats by Sofascore show that Calvert-Lewin was involved in 20 total duels in a bid to cause issues for Arsenal's defence - more than any player in the whole game.

He won 40 per cent of the 10 ground duels he contended and 50 per cent of his 10 aerial duels.

Calvert-Lewin was a consistent thorn in the side of Gabriel and Ezri Konsa, and was unfortunate to be on a team that walked away with nothing from the Emirates.
