Lee Dixon hits back immediately at what Sam Matterface said about James Trafford live on air

Leeds United ace James Trafford started again for England against Czechia.

The Whites goalkeeper was given another opportunity for the Nations League clash in Prague on Tuesday.

And Trafford put in an assured display, keeping a clean sheet as England ran out 2-0 victors.

Anthony Gordon and captain Harry Kane were on target for England, who rebounded from a 3-2 defeat to Spain on Saturday.

Everton's Jordan Pickford is expected to take back the gloves against Croatia on Saturday.

Discussing Trafford live during ITV's coverage of the game, something Sam Matterface said drew an instant retort from Lee Dixon.

What did Sam Matterface say about James Trafford?

In truth, Trafford did not have a great deal to do in the England goal bar, though he did make a couple of crucial interventions early doors.

Pavel Sulc's red card in just the 24th minute for a high challenge on Elliot Anderson made life difficult for Czechia.

But when he was involved, Trafford did what he had to with the minimum amount of fuss and he deserved his clean sheet.

Lead commentator Matterface felt that Trafford may have been disappointed to have had a quiet game as he did not get a chance to show Thomas Tuchel his talent.

However, Dixon disagreed, stating that all goalkeepers want a quiet outing and Trafford will be content with how things went.

Matterface said: "James Trafford will be disappointed with the way the game has gone tonight, the fact he hasn't had much to do, bearing in mind that he's only got a little bit of time to impress the gaffer."

Dixon immediately snapped back: "No he won't, goalies don't like doing anything, clean sheet that's all he's bothered about."

Matterface came back again, adding: "He hasn't seen the ball in nearly 40 minutes."

Dixon said: "Yeah, they don't want to be doing anything."

Matterface brought the discussion to an end, by replying: "Maybe he had enough to do on Saturday night."

How did James Trafford get on for England?

Tuchel stated after the Spain game that Trafford would get another go between the sticks.

Pickford is likely to come back in now, but Trafford will feel he's done a decent job of proving he can challenge for the number one spot.

Against Czechia, he was only required to make two saves, which amounted to goals prevented rate of 0.23.

Additionally, he had one successful run out, and one completed high claim, in an otherwise quiet outing.

But, ask any goalkeeper what they want, and they will always tell you it's the clean sheet.

So, in that regard, it was job done for Trafford.
