Kris Boyd was left baffled after Daniel Farke took Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto off against Portsmouth.

Gnonto made the score 2-2 with his goal in the 46th minute before Callum Lang's stoppage-time penalty was cancelled out by a last-gasp Brenden Aaronson equaliser.

And Boyd, speaking live on Sky Sports News (10 August, 2:40 pm), didn't understand why Farke took Gnonto off during the match.

"Willy Gnonto, I thought caused problems the whole time he was on, yeah the goalkeeper might look at it and think I should do better," Boyd said.

"But I'll go back to the substitutions, I don't think Dan James and Gnonto should have been taken off."

Farke's side did not get off to the start supporters at Elland Road would have been hoping for.

A home match against a newly promoted side is about as favourable a first fixture a team can be handed. However, Leeds failed to capitalise on a golden opportunity to claim all three points.

In truth, they should have been out of sight, with the Whites registering 22 shots at goal compared to Portsmouth's five. However, their wastefulness let them down.

And Farke's decision to take Gnonto off might have been a costly one. The forward was in inspired form throughout proceedings and could have made a difference if he was still on during the latter stages of the match.

After play-off final heartbreak last season Leeds will want to make another promotion push throughout the current campaign.

However, if they're going to do that, then Farke will need to make better in-game decisions as the season goes on.
