Keith Hackett reacts as Dan James involved in red card controversy in Wales vs Norway

Dan James and Ethan Ampadu were everywhere as Wales beat Norway on Thursday evening.

Craig Bellamy once again started the Leeds United pair in Cardiff, and was rewarded heavily.

Having lost their opening two Nations League games in this break, Wales bounced back to beat Erling Haaland and Co, 2-1.

It was James who got his country back on track, tapping home after a lung-busting late run into the box to equalise.

With Martin Odegaard running the show, Ampadu made sure to put his country on top with his defensive work.

And the drama wasn't done there for James, who was involved in a huge talking point in the second half.

Only 15 seconds into the second half, James raced through on goal to chase a long ball.

And Torbjorn Heggem couldn't help but drag him down, with the referee producing a straight-red card.

Keith Hackett believes that the decision was spot on, despite several criteria needing to be met for that.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the ex-FIFA referee shared exactly why the foul on James was worthy of red.

"Denial of an obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity," he started.

"The referee was correct in his detection and application of the law and the red card is the correct decision.

"The direction of play is central to goal, the attacker is clearly fouled.

"There is a strong likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball, and no other defender is in proximity to challenge.

"Outcome: Red card - correct decision."

Where is this Dan James at Elland Road?

Of course, it's hard to make this much of an impact when not starting in the Premier League.

But, Daniel Farke consistently calls upon him from the bench, and doesn't get this level of performance.

At the start of this season, James has looked sluggish, while his end product has been nowhere near good enough.

For Wales, it was the complete opposite on Thursday, and hopefully, it can give him the confidence needed to bring it back to LS11.
