Jonathan Buchan reacts to what he found out after Dominic Calvert-Lewin decision - 'that's a bit daft'
It has been some week for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
On Monday, the 29-year-old scored twice as the Whites hammered Newcastle United 4-1 at Elland Road.
Calvert-Lewin has consequently scored four goals in all competitions this season, three in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup.
His performances have caught the eye of England boss Thomas Tuchel, who recalled him to the Three Lions fold.
Calvert-Lewin had been involved at the back end of the previous campaign, but did not make the World Cup squad over the summer.
BBC Radio Leeds reporter Jonathan Buchan has been speaking about Calvert-Lewin, and shared something he finds "a bit daft" about what he learned this week.
What did Jonathan Buchan learn after Calvert-Lewin double for Leeds?
Calvert-Lewin had to fight hard to make sure he ended up with two goals in Leeds' win over Newcastle.
While there was no doubting the second was definitely his after he sat down Sven Botman and rolled past Lukas Hornicek, the first caused some consternation.
Calvert-Lewin leapt high to meet James Justin's pin-point cross a thumping header, in a wonderful centre-forward goal.
However, the Premier League initially awarded the goal to Jayden Bogle, saying the ball had clipped the Leeds wing-back on the way in.
Leeds appealed against the decision and Calvert-Lewin was eventually awarded the goal by the Premier League.
However, Buchan - speaking with Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix on the Don't Go To Bed Just Yet podcast - was astounded to learn he would not get the points for a second Calvert-Lewin goal for his fantasy Premier League team.
He said: "Dominic Calvert-Lewin, he's back in the England squad for these Nations League fixtures against Spain, the Czech Republic, Croatia as well.
"Great news, fantastic news, well deserved. Three goals in the Premier League from four games this season, one in the cup as well. We were all frustrated he didn't have that goal accredited to him against Newcastle in time for us to get the FPL points, annoyingly."
Rix replied: "You've got the assist though, so it doesn't make a huge difference for FPL, but it's funny that is the way that works."
To which Buchan said: "Yeah, it's the game week shots and therefore you can't update it. That's a bit daft."
How much game time will Calvert-Lewin see for England?
That is the million-dollar question really.
An opportunity has presented itself now that Ollie Watkins has departed Aston Villa to join Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.
England will play Czechia twice, Spain, and Croatia over the next few weeks as the Three Lions start their Nations League campaign.
But, ultimately, he is still behind Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane in the pecking order.
If Kane is fit then Kane is going to start, and it makes you wonder how much game time Calvert-Lewin will get.
Selfishly, from a Leeds perspective, you want to make sure Calvert-Lewin comes back fit and fresh, so an impact-sub role might be a nice happy medium.
