'It's crazy' – Jermaine Jenas reacts as Ch'ship player makes big reveal that will affect Leeds

BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas has described plans to start the 20/21 season in the first week of September as "crazy". 

Reading midfielder Charlie Adam said that he'd heard the 20/21 campaign would start on September 5 and that it would be tough for players after so many games in a short space of time.

Talking on the Friday Football Social, Adam said: "I'm hearing that the Championship will start September 5. There won't be much of a turnaround and the players won't get much rest.

"Listen, we've had a break but it will be tough. The lads will definitely have to have a break after so many games in such a short period."

BBC pundit Jenas went further and said, "I’m not sure the players will stand for it."

He went on to say it would be even worse for some Premier League sides.

"If you’re talking about finishing the season and then players going into the Champions League and then starting the season in September, it’s crazy.

"The elite players are going to come off that and go straight into the Euros next summer."

All the thought has been of getting the 19/20 season back on the pitch, but Adam and Jenas make good points.

Players were supposed to take a break during lockdown but we have our doubts that any Leeds players actually took their feet off the pedals at any time.

They know how much they've got to play for in the remaining nine games and they know what a stickler Bielsa is for fitness.

However, this condensing of games could lead to future problems for all sides, not just Leeds.

There is one potential upside. Plenty of Premier League players will get no break at all if they're playing in Champions League games.

If Leeds United do get promoted then they might actually get more of a rest and be in a better place to start the Premier League fast.
