Ian Wright has sent a message to Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford motivating him to target the Premier League Golden Boot.

The Whites striker has scored 14 goals but is currently five strikes behind the likes of Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane in the standings.

Wright suggested that Bamford didn't appear to grasp the messages, who wants to see more selfishness now that Leeds are safe from relegation.

Speaking on Wrighty's House Podcast, the former Arsenal man wanted to motivate Bamford moving forward towards the end of the season.

"I sent him a message the other day, saying you don’t need to win the league to win the golden boot," he said.

"I don’t know if he grasped it. He didn’t grasp it like I was saying it.

"Because what I was trying to say was ‘your team is fine, go and start to take those chances’. Accumulate."

Unfortunate.

This probably isn't what Bamford wanted to hear days after he was sacrificed by Marcelo Bielsa in the 2-1 victory against Manchester City.

In his only opportunity in the final third, the striker laid it off perfectly for Stuart Dallas to smash home his first strike of the game at The Etihad.

Bamford was even questioned by Alan Shearer recently, with the Premier League record-scorer claiming that he has to shoot more in games.

With the Whites now basically safe and in the top half of the Premier League, we could be seeing a huge difference in Bamford's game, with Wright previously calling his style "perfect".

Given the fact that Wright appeared to not get across his main message, Bamford will likely be listening to Bielsa more, and what has got the Whites into this brilliant position.
