Hoffenheim could re-sign Georginio Rutter from Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to Bild.

The Whites only brought the forward to Elland Road in January from the German club on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

But Rutter, who cost Leeds a club record £35.5million in the last transfer window, failed to score in any of his 13 Whites appearances.

German outlet Bild now claims that Rutter could be a target for his former club and their current director of football Alexander Rosen.

The publication noted that Rosen’s upcoming tasks in squad planning for the new season could “include the return” of the 21-year-old attacker.

Nightmare debut campaign

It really was a nightmare debut campaign in England for the youngster, who arrived at Elland Road from Germany with so much promise.

But his Leeds career so far has already seen him drop to the club’s under-21s, where he did at least find the back of the net once from his three matches.

But zero goals from 13 senior appearances perhaps summarises the Elland Road outfit’s many transfer failings in recent times.

Of course the striker is still young and joined a club that were already struggling in the hugely competitive league, but there are expectations at Elland Road, from coaches to supporters, and Rutter hasn’t come close to meeting them.

A return to Germany, perhaps even on loan, could be the best outcome for all parties, although Rutter could yet prove his worth in the Championship next season, with a strong run of form there undoubtedly set to help him gain some much-needed confidence.
