Gary Lineker instantly reacts to Dominic Calvert-Lewin's England snub, Alan Shearer agrees on Leeds star

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was left on the bench as England cruised to a 2-0 victory over Czechia on Tuesday.

The Leeds United striker wasn't called upon, despite Harry Kane being taken off late in the second half.

James Trafford did start again, and kept a clean sheet as the home side struggled for over an hour with 10-men.

Jude Bellingham was weirdly played as a false nine off the bench, leaving many with serious questions of Thomas Tuchel.

While Daniel Farke will appreciate further rest for his number nine, Calvert-Lewin won't get a better chance than that to score for his country again.

Gary Lineker agreed, and was left baffled by the decisions away from home in the Nations League.

What was Thomas Tuchel thinking?

Leeds fans around the world were left bemused by the decision not to call upon their striker against 10 men, with the perfect chance there.

Speaking on the Rest is Football, Lineker wasn't too sure about Tuchel's plan in the second half and the snub of Calvert-Lewin.

"Interesting, though, I just thought in a tactical perspective, when Kane came off, he didn't put Calvert-Lewin on," he said.

"He kind of played Bellingham as a false nine, which I think, looking ahead, what's Kane now? We're going to have to look beyond Harry Kane at some point.

"There's no natural progressor at the moment, but maybe Tuchel sees Bellingham as a false nine."

Alan Shearer, who knows more than most about number nines, instantly thought about the Leeds striker.

"I thought that as well, as soon as he brought him on, I thought the same thing."

Micah Richards also agreed, and was left scratching his head at the decision in Czechia.

"I'm not sure, I just prefer Bellingham's runs from deeper, he can get more on the ball and he's got more presence in that midfield."

What's the point in England call ups?

We've seen the opposite ends of this scale in this break already.

Trafford has been given the chance to play two games out of the four already, and kept his spot in the win on Tuesday with a clean sheet.

Now, Jordan Pickford will come in for the remaining games and give him that much-needed rest.

For Calvert-Lewin, surely there isn't a better chance to rest Kane and give your second-choice striker a full half of football than against 10 men.

Czechia were sat behind the ball and offered nothing after the red card, so how the Leeds star didn't get on is simply stupid.

Of course, every player wants to represent their country, but England and Tuchel are simply stuck in a rut and lost in the past.

That won't change, no matter which strikers are called up.
